Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery |
|
| |
Removal of wisdom teeth is performed by a special type of surgeon in the field of dentistry. Oral surgeons are dental specialists whose practice is limited to the diagnosis, surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries, deformities, defects and esthetic aspects of the oral and maxillofacial regions, in other words, they perform surgery on the bones and tissues of the face, mouth and neck. They can perform a wide range of operations that include wisdom teeth removal, facial reconstruction, surgical correction of misaligned jaws and cancer removal surgery.

| |
An oral or maxillofacial surgeon must complete four to seven years of surgical and medical training in addition to the four years of dental school. He or she can perform a variety of surgeries in either an office or a hospital setting, depending on the type of surgery. |
