    Prosthodontics

Need a tooth replacement? You should consult with a prosthodontist, a dentist who specializes in the restoring and replacing broken and missing teeth with artificial substitutes or prostheses. A prosthodontist is trained in making artificial replacements or prosthodontics for missing or damaged natural dental structures. This can be as simple as making a crown for a damaged, decayed or malformed tooth or it could involve the design and fabrication of facial parts lost to cancer. Most of the time the job of a prosthodontist is somewhere between these two extremes.

There are two types of prosthodontics. Removable prosthodontics includes replacing missing teeth with dentures and partial dentures that patients can take out themselves. Fixed prosthodontics includes replacing missing and/or broken teeth with restorations that the patient cannot remove, such as veneers, crowns, bridges, and implants. Prosthodontics also deals with reconstruction after injury or oral cancer, as well as temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems or with snoring.
